Caleana major (Flying Duck Orchid) germinated in flask at Botanic Ridge Orchids Australia and producing leaves!!! Unfortunately nowhere near commercial quantity but a starting point nevertheless. We’re hoping to achieve better germination with some line breeding. We’re planning to do a sib cross in flask, with the hope that germination greatly improves on the first try! Who knows how long til flowering size, but with any luck, thatll work and then well look at the next step - strongest growing Ex Vitro to reduce the reliance upon fungal symbiosis! We’re guessing that germination In Vitro has already selected for that to some extent already, but there will be other factors no doubt too.
