Caleb and I came to terms that we will never own a dog/cat/or - TopicsExpress

Caleb and I came to terms that we will never own a dog/cat/or small critter. My son has bad allergies to cats and dogs and we tried our hand at little critters and never works out for us. So we agreed on Fish. He already has a fish and loves him {Beautiful the Beta}. I grew up with tons of fish, Patty Prososki {my mom} had at least three tanks during my childhood and I can remember watching those fish and appreciating them. Hopefully Caleb will do the same, I have had a tank before so I know all about the upkeep and would prefer tending to them every 1-2 weeks vs. weekly/daily like other pets. So, I have been on the look out for a fish tank at the thrift store for weeks. One finally presented itself {29 Galloon} and I snagged it. I got the Tank, with lid, light, x2 filteration systems, x2 air pumps, new air tubing, x2 new packs of air stones and x2 heaters. All for 39.99. Only PIT was that it was NASTY and I mean enough to make my stomach turn and that takes a lot. It smelled like Fish, not fishy but putrid dead fish. TMI? It took quite some time of scrubbing and scorching with hot water and vinegar for the smell. Did some internet research on how to remove water deposit build up. FWI, salt & vinegar takes off mineral build up and now its sparkling like new!! Tested it for leaks, tested good. We still need: gravel, few plants, fish filter, water conditioner, fish and a stand. Plan on hitting up the thrift stores for the stand, I dont mind re-conditioning something if I like it.
