Californians will pay an average 4.2 percent more for their health care premiums in the next enrollment period compared with last year, state officials announced Thursday. Calling the increase modest and hailing it as a victory in negotiations, Covered California’s executive director Peter Lee said the cost of health care in the Golden State will remain affordable for most and that tax subsidies for those who qualify will remain the same, except in regions where premiums decreased.
