Call Asari-Dokubo To Order, Lagos Assembly Tells Jonathan Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have called on President Goodluck Jonathan to call to order, the leader of Niger Delta Peoples Volunteers Force, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, over his inflammatory statements. In a statement issued by its Chairman, House Committee on Information, Strategy, Security and Publicity, Segun Olulade, the House noted that the perpetual utterance of inflammatory statements against anyone who does not align with political position of Jonathan by Asari Dokubo was unbecoming. “Asari does not spare elderstatesmen and national figures in his array of insults against them. “Asari has demonstrated attitude capable of disuniting the nation by overbearing his ethnic sentiments in addressing national issues. “We cannot imagine statements uttered by Asari in view of life-threatening attack on General Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna last week. “If the attacker had succeeded, we don’t think Asari would have a ground to be saying what he said because by now, the nation might have been drifted into serious ethnic crisis capable of consuming the unity of the country. “We are more worried that each time Asari makes inflammatory statements, President Jonathan looks away from the damaging effects of Dokubo’s statements. “We are even surprised that sometimes the militant leader takes to the pages of social media to threaten President Jonathan to dare national figures and take to hard measures on them particularly in the opposition. “Our message to Asari-Dokubo is that Nigeria is a nation of ethnic variables, but the status of President of the country or any national political office holder transcends ethnic interest, and the earlier Asari realises this, the better. “With the magnitude of challenges the nation is facing, and the general elections getting closer, we feel the President needs to douse all ethnic excesses beginning from his kinsman so that Mr President would be dissociated from Asari’s utterances since many Nigerians insulted by Dokubo have perceived that he is speaking Mr. President’s mind,” the statement read in part. The lawmakers pointed out that Asari-Dokubo has taken a flight away from peace building, noting that his recent pronouncements over Chibok schoolgirls abduction, BringBackOurGirls campaign and attack on General Buhari are all condemnable and unpopular.
