Call for AP-LS Minority Affairs Committee Members The American Psychology and Law Society (AP-LS, Division 41 of APA) Minority Affairs Committee (MAC) is inviting nominations and self-nominations for committee membership. We are seeking nominations for 3-5 academic/professional members (who have completed their training in psychology and/or law), and 2-3 student members. MAC engages in activities that facilitate its mission of 1) increasing the representation and participation of underrepresented groups in the field of psychology and law and 2) promoting research related to diversity in psychology and law. Responsibilities of MAC members include awarding and administering student grant programs (i.e., Diversity in Psychology and Law Research Award, Diversity Travel Award, and Access Path to Psychology and Law Experience program), outreach to students and professionals from underrepresented groups (i.e., conference activities, video outreach project, and connections with other societies to increase diversity of AP-LS membership), and developing new strategies to promote diversity within the field of psychology and law. MAC functions through subcommittees that address our primary responsibilities: 1. Travel Award Subcommittee 2. Diversity Award Subcommittee 3. APPLE Award Subcommittee (These three subcommittees are responsible for review and administration of MAC’s funding and award programs.) 4. Communications Subcommittee (This committee is responsible for increasing the visibility of MAC, its products – such as our online presence and a series of recently produced videos – and the work of AP-LS members from underrepresented groups.) 5. Conference Subcommittee (This committee is responsible for highlighting the work of MAC at the annual AP-LS MAC members will be asked to join either one or two of these subcommittees. Student members are only eligible for membership of the Communications and Conference Subcommittees. MAC welcomes participation from individuals who have a commitment to the MAC mission. We strive to have committee members who are diverse in terms of training, interests, and background characteristics. Membership is a three-year commitment.
