Call for Papers! Catholic Social Tradition Conference JOY & HOPE 50th Anniversary of Gaudium et Spes March 22–24, 2015 The Joy & Hope: 50th Anniversary of Gaudium et Spes Conference will have internationally known speakers celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Vatican II document, Gaudium et Spes, regarded as the most significant document of Catholic social teaching in the twentieth century. The core purpose of the 50th Anniversary of Gaudium et Spes conference is to explore, in an academic setting, the thematic social justice issues that have been addressed by modern Catholic social thought, especially those within the pastoral constitution such as human dignity, political structures, economic development and internationalization. In order to garner original and creative insights from the speakers and their papers, presenters are being asked to address the weaknesses or gaps that exist within the document and how the Church of today can move forward in the promotion of peace and justice in our pluralistic world. CALL FOR PAPERS: The Center for Social Concerns at the University of Notre Dame requests proposals regarding the development of the Catholic Social Tradition in the following areas: • Historical development and critique of the document and social doctrine • Address present social issues in light of the teaching of the pastoral constitution • How the Church can forward the promotion of peace and justice in a pluralistic world The deadline for submitting proposals for review is November 30, 2014. Submissions must include an abstract limited to 500 words.
