Call me Ms. Controversy. Lately my mind goes to issues in the world that nobody cares to discuss. I was thinking about the unemployment situation and remembering how often I see foreign ladies walking in my neighborhood. There are plenty of Jamaicans, Filipinos, Guatemalans, Dominicans and so on in this country. If theyre on our streets in quiet residential neighborhoods one has to assume they found gainful employment. Who is providing work permits and how can they afford to travel here? My mind then went to the touchy subject of class distinction and how throughout history the more affluent in society looked on the impoverished with disdain and disgust as if its a disease, or theyre all thieves and criminals. Id call it being socially corrupt, and it makes sense the person would justify treating poor employees badly. Do you think some of these people might have been brought here? They could be promised a great life with a good salary to send home. The employer may agree to pay for a work permit, but when they arrive theyre expected to give up their passport to ensure they fulfill their financial obligation regarding the costs involved. I personally know of a case where a young foreign women went absent without leave never to return. How bad must it be to leave without notice and never come back? Perhaps she found a man here to her liking. I didnt know any details except she wanted to go home and was having passport problems. Hmm.
