Senator Dianne Feinstein 331 Hart Senate Office Building Washington DC 20510 (202) 224-3841 Dear Senator Feinstein, We, Ukrainians residing in the State of California, are outraged at the violent events which occurred in Kyiv’s Independence Square and harshly condemn the actions that led to the employment of force against the peaceful protesters. The special task force, Berkut, armed with clubs and shields dispersed the protesters at Kyiv’s landmark Independence Square early on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1st. Beginning November 28th over 200,000 Ukrainians had been demonstrating against the government’s decision to suspend signing a key integration agreement with the European Union. After the protest at the Independence Square was dispersed, between 5,000 and 10,000 protesters then assembled in Kyivs St. Michaels Square on Saturday evening to continue rallying against Yanukovich’s government. Today the brutality still continues against the peaceful protestors in the Independence Square in Kyiv. We condemn the excessive use of force and the brutal attack by the police during the peaceful rally and urge the government in Kyiv to carry out an investigation and to prosecute the perpetrators. We, the undersigned, urge the Ukrainian government to reverse their decision and to support the will of the Ukrainian Nation to integrate into the European Union. Further we ask for your support in freezing assets and visa restrictions for Yanukovych and his government officials.
