Calling oneself Salaafi without any reason or scenario, to me, is contradictory to the spirit of Islam --- brotherhood. A point of thought for self proclaimed salaafis, is this: No Muslim will say he doesnt follow Prophet Muhammad, we follow his teachings, but we all reject to be called and will never call our selves Muhammadi or Muhammadist. And we will never allow Islam to be called Muhammadiyah or Muhammadism. By the same token, if we are reflecting upon the Uniqueness of the Message of Islam, we will never confuse following the paths of the Sahaabah and Tabiheen for labelling ourselves as Salaafi or whatnot. More harm comes from prefix. And where is the joint label of being a Muslim? or where is the broader style of grouping that doesnt have peoples name or a generation? where is the beautiful phrase that was used by Ibn Abbass to differentiate Muslims upon the beliefs of the Prophets and companions from the Arruriyah and Qadarriyah ??? Where is Ahl-Us Sunnah Wal Jamaah?
