Calls for H2B to be extended or cut The Sunday Times reports that going into the Budget, there is a growing chorus of voices that would like Help to Buy to be axed as they fear it is causing a bubble in the housing market and is a distraction to rebooting our economy. Huw van Steenis and Charles Goodhart, both of Morgan Stanley, writing in the paper, disagree. They claim that Help to Buy is refreshing the parts that other policies cannot reach, particularly housebuilding outside London and southeast England. They would like to see Help to Buy made permanent in the budget. Separately in the Times, it is reported that the Help to Buy scheme is likely to be extended in this weeks budget. Meanwhile, the Independent suggests that the scheme will be cut soon and wonders whether now would be a good time for aspiring homeowners to take advantage of it.
