* Calm Under Pressure --------------------------------- As many you know, I started specialising in pregnancy massage a few years ago. Its not that dissimilar to the way youd massage a non-pregnant person, just a few extra things to be aware and some different techniques that are useful to apply. Specifically one of those techniques involve a pumping action on certain pressure points to help induce labour for overdue women that want to get things moving. Recently, I was working the pressure points for a woman that was few overdue, but more to the point she was in some pain, uncomfortable and generally over it - she wanted to have that baby! Towards the end of the treatment her water broke. We managed to gracefully get her to the bathroom and when she came out early signs of labour had already began! The next morning I received a text message saying she had her baby boy. After a three labour, as planned, the birth took place in the bathtub at home. The text message also said, Thank you Richard for being so calm. It was true, I was pretty calm during the situation. I figured some peacefulness was the best way to approach it all after hearing so many stories of families members making birthing more challenging by bringing all their anxieties and opinions to the party. Another reason I was feeling chilled in the situation is I do a lot of yoga, meditation and kirtan. You all know what yoga and meditation is, but what about kirtan? Kirtan is a form of meditation where melodious mantra are sung to live music. Its actually the other job I do when Im not massaging, or doing the admin for my partners spiritual psychology and meditation practice. Kirtan is a powerful practice for shifting emotional and physical blockages. Its also great for exploring your spirituality. If you are interested in finding out more, we run regular kirtan events in the Newcastle area. All the info is here: callingyourspirit. The next kirtan is 5pm this Saturday 6 September. At a recent kirtan, I chatted to one the participants before we started. They were one of my long term massage clients attending their first kirtan with me, and said they were feeling sore and restricted in their body, and wanting to book a massage. The next afternoon when they came in for their massage, they were so, so, so, so energised and reported all the aches had evaporated by the time the kirtan had finished. Theyd spent the day in the garden working hard and here they were absolutely bursting with life and enthusiasm. Ive known them a while and this was definitely a significantly more vibrant state than our past interactions. Whilst Im glad they showed up for their appointment, they really didnt need it this time around. And if kirtan doesnt sound like your thing, massage is a great was to take the edge off, chill out (even if you are having a heavy duty treatment) and make sure you can stay calm under the pressures of life. Fathers Day is coming up on September 7th if you are looking for a constructive gift for dad... Or just looking for positive gift for anyone! You can purchase gift certificates at the clinic or pay by card over the phone. If youd like to buy a gift certificate or book a massage, please contact reception on 49563353. Also, I will be massaging on Fathers Day. There were still two appointments left! All the best, Richard Dip. Remedial Massage, Reiki Master P.S.
