*Calymene celebra* may be the state fossil of Wisconsin, but its also found in our region, within the Wenlock-age dolomites of the Springfield and Laurel Formations of Ohio and Indiana, respectively. Given this extensive range, *celebra* has historically been used as an index fossil for stratigraphic correlation. Note that youll often see this species assigned to other genera, particularly *Gravicalymene*. However, morphometric analysis conducted by Alex Chestnut (rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=wright1239724101) within the past decade suggests that it is indeed a *Calymene*.
