Story of the Day: I long ago stopped being shocked by how crazy airline pricing models are but today, the crazy hit a new level. Im flying Vegas - Paris - NYC this summer but I wanted to change it to Vegas - Paris - NYC via Barcelona so I could attend my friends wedding in Barcelona. Original ticket: $1500. New ticket when I priced it on their website: $1700. I know changing a ticket is fee ($300) plus fare difference but when I called American Airlines, they said since I was switching countries, different rules applied and quoted me the fee plus another $1,800! $1,800!!! Bloody hell! Canceling my ticket and rebooking a new ticket only cost me an extra $450 (though as an AMEX card holder I get a $200 credit so it only cost me $250). Think about how nuts that is.....and the time that was wasted being on the phone. It was cheaper for me to cancel my original ticket and rebook my entire new itinerary than change a route. I guess airlines can still amaze a jaded old traveler like me.
