Cami has grown progressively more lethargic over the last few - TopicsExpress

Cami has grown progressively more lethargic over the last few months and it took us awhile to find the cause...it is the whole grain corn in her prescription food. Of course, being the dedicated mommy that she is, Joanne began a quest to put the pep back in Camis step! The search was on to find a food that was good for Cami that wouldnt make her blood sugars go completely off the charts, or break the bank! While talking with Camis mommy, Joanne Hightower, I was reminded of just how expensive it is to take care of a dog with diabetes. A routine expense report for Cami averages about $200 per month, not including vet visits when necessary. You see, not only can diabetes be life threatening for Cami and all of the other pets with this very scary disease, but the cost of taking care of the animals can be overwhelming at times. For most of us, changing our dogs food is just a matter of gradually adding more of the new food and giving less of the old food until our dog is soon eating only the new food. Voila! Over and done with. Not so easy for a diabetic dog. Changing Camis food is indeed another step along her journey. She has to go through so many more blood sugar checks and insulin dosage changes again, as her body reacts to this change in her diet. Cami is feeling so much better on this new food, seems it was just what she needed. She is feeling better and acting more like the perky little lady we knew she could be. Unfortunately, the down side to all of this is the added expense of diabetic testing. Camis mommy and daddy have had to buy more insulin, lancets, test strips, and syringes than usual, and of course, her new more expensive dog food. On a retirement budget this can be really hard. They will find the money somewhere, but we would really like to be able to help them, as they have done so much to help our sweet Cami. As I make my donation tonight in memory of my sweet Harley, I ask you to please join me and consider making a donation via PayPal to Gdrescuedonations@gmail.
