Campus Alert Update - Just after 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, El Camino College Police Officers responded to an emergency call in Parking Lot F (Channel Parking Lot). The officers encountered an individual who appeared to have a gun, which he pointed at the officers. An officer involved shooting occurred; the entire incident lasted less than five minutes. If you or someone you know witnessed the incident, please contact ECC Police, 310-660-3100. The suspect was taken to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition, and under police custody. He was enrolled as a student at ECC during fall 2014. The ECC Police Officers involved were not physically injured. The ECC Police Department (PD) released two Nixle alerts following the incident. A campus email was sent to all employees and students as soon as information was available. ECC also released information via our social media channels (Facebook and Twitter) and the college website. The follow-up investigation is being handled by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department. Although the initial fieldwork appears to be moving quickly, the final analysis and report from the Sheriffs Department will likely not be completed for some months. During this ongoing investigation, we are restricted in the information we are legally able to provide. As a reminder, any and all emails are subject to discovery in any future proceedings. All meetings regarding this topic would also be discoverable. Please be mindful that everyone involved has rights that we must respect. Lot F (Channel Parking Lot) is now open, with no restrictions.
