Can I do something different. A now and then about a person. Can I do a Bristol Now and Then, about my grandfather George Rudge , now 89. Brought up on Lydney Road Southmead. He was the Flight Sargent in a Lancaster Bomber in WW2. He was shot down on the 22nd Feb 44. Last year he went to the Houses of Parliament to speak to MPs, fighting for the war medal, that bomber command never received. His father, whilst he was gone, worked 7 days a week, month in, month out, with only an occasional day off, in the Rolls Royce factories, working relentlessly for the war effort. I just thought that some of you may be interested? Bristol and its people have a fascinating history. This story about a boy (at the time), who lived in Southmead, who ended up flying a Lancaster Bomber. And years later as an old man, stood in the Houses of Parliament, talking to MPs. He never gave up with his fight to ensure that all his fellow bomber command colleagues, received the war medal, like every other faction of the British Military. Finally after 67 years he was successful.
