Can I tell you that one of my favorite moments of the last decade was seeing David Sedaris read in Providence and when he fielded questions from the audience, someone yelled out, Hows the Rooster? and David became seemingly somber and slightly shaken and replied that his brother and his family had been either killed or severely injured (cant remember which) in a car accident just that day. The place fell silent for a good 2-3 seconds before he broke in with, No, no, Im just kidding, and laughed. It separated the place into two camps: the people who have known all along and loved the fact that theres something beautifully, wonderfully wrong with the man and those who just came to laugh and hear eccentric insights. Me? I lost my shit.
