Can mindfulness improve self-control? Researcher Rimma Teper thinks so. She and her colleagues at the University of Toronto recently published a paper in Current Directions in Psychological Science which refutes the common misconception that meditation “empties our heads” of emotions; instead, they suggest that mindfulness may actually help us become MORE aware and accepting of emotional signals (which will then help us to better control our behavior).
