Can someone tell me about any significant contribution of madrassa system towards humanity in past few centuries. Can we name a few scholars of any significant contribution towards knowledge and social reforms who arose from madrassas in recent past. The madrassa system is based on dars e Nizami system which was introduced in India almost 250 years ago by Mullah Nizam Uddin. In fact it was the last revised version of madaris education system taught in Islamic states. It is very pertinent to note that the madaris education system is not any sacred religious educational system as is commonly believed. In reality it is a very much secular educational system including subjects of philosophy, mathematics, logic, dialogue, language etc in addition to Islamic subjects of Quran Hadith and Fiqah. The basic thought behind devising that educational system was to prepare civil servants for various govt jobs in the Islamic state. We can fairly and squarely see that this is no more an option and the graduates of madaris system cannot be utilized in any of the civil services today because of drastic changes in the govt structure and function therefore we can safely say that madaris system has long outlived its utility due to lack of timely up gradations and adjustments according to progress in the various fields of knowledge. It has putrefied and smells rotten. In light of this and a constant threat of its negative contribution towards society why should not we abolish madrassa system and replace it with a National School System in toto which should immediately start functioning in same premises with a govt defined syllabus and govt employed qualified teachers. We must not forget that millions of innocent children are regularly provided as fodder to these institutions and unless we tackle it seriously the threat will never end. A legislation to this effect from govt and allocation of appropriate funds can do the magic. I suggest that social media should start a campaign to achieve this objective.
