Can something good come out of Nazareth? This is popular biblical saying which could be stretched to can something good come out of Africa? Lets just review happenings in Africa and you will appreciate the import of this statement. Ebola the latest deadly disease in the world started in Africa and is ravaging the continents with thousands of Africans dead already. Africa has recorded the highest death from aids and has the highest number of cases in the world, With South Africa, Botswana and Swaziland competing for first position for the number people effected by the virus. Militias all over Africa killing and maiming people in the name of religion or ethnicity. More than a hundred thousand have been killed in Nigeria by BH militants and about 600000 displaced as a result of the mayhem, same story in Somalia and central Africa. We have also been exporting dictatorship. Imagine Mugabe being in power since the independence of Zimbabwe in 1980 and using it to harass his people! For 42years Gaddafi called the shots in Libya and tyrannically ruled the Libya. In corruption we lead the way. swiss banks are being sustained,to a large degree, by the loot from African continent. I scratched my head and I have been able to identify some cheering news in Africa. Four girls in Lagos namely Duro-Aina, Adebola, Akindele Abiola and Folake all 14 of age and Bello Eniola 15 have created a generator that produces electricity for 6hours, using a single litre of urine fuel. This discovery appear pedestrian but that is how new product emerge using crude technology which is later to developed to a world brand. Late Dr Ameyo Stella Adedevoh is good news from Africa. While her colleagues who had sworn to save human life were busy striking on welfare packages, the heroine of our time was able to save Nigeria of the Ebola epidemic as she refused to discharge the Liberian that brought the disease to Nigeria. She was able to identify the disease and with courage and commitment treated him and eventually lost her life. Our under 17 soccer heroes from Nigeria conquered the world in style and poised, scoring the highest number of goals ever recorded since the tournament started. Few Years ago, Samuel Eto while at Barca was crown the king of goals in Europe, scoring 32 goals being the highest then in Europe. In 2010, he became the first player to have won two European continental trebles following his back to back achievements with Barca and inter Milan. He is the second player to have ever scored in two separate UEFA finals and the fourth player to have won UEFA champion league final twice in a row with different teams. When the previous week, Drogba was welcomed at Stanford bridge as a Chelsea legend, I was so proud ofAfrica, even the club owner Roman Abromovich joined thousands of Chelsea faithfuls to stand up for Drogba as he played for only 10 minutes. Our biggest export to the world is the one and only one Mandela. This man lived and died as a legend and has no match in the entire universe as he was an epitome of a statesman, a leader who sacrificed his comfort, family to give a South Africa a non racial, democratic, just and fair country. His reconciliatory and fair mindedness in spite what he went through in the hands of the apartheid regime is incomparable in the annals of our time. Furthermore, he refused to be carried away by the sweetness of power as he refused to go for the second time which he was entitled. Im yet to know of any leader in modern democracy that refused to exhaust the maximum term the constitution provides. Folks there are other positives from our continents, Dangote, the Bussiness guru of Africa, Mo Ibrahim the then owner of Celtel who set up Mo Ibrahim foundation specifically to promote good governance in Africa. Any leader in Africa that delivered on security, education, health and successfully transferred power democratically to his successors, he is entitled to the sum $5m and annually he gets $200000 for life! Africa wake up and banish the negatives of monumental corruption, mental and physical laziness, religious and ethnic bigotry. We have all it takes to make our continent the envy of the world, given our human and material resources.
