Excerpt from CRIMINAL INTENT-- (name under chapter title is narrator of the chapter) Chapter 1 Jani He was late, by like two hours; I paced by the phone on the wall and had the computer on instant local newsfeed, with my cell in hand. I hate late night phone calls, because they are never good. I swore to myself I would never marry a man in law enforcement because growing up I was constantly worried about my father, never could shake that feeling either. Ten years ago, I realized why. Then what do I do, marry one anyway. I really try not to be the worried wife, but when your husband is two hours late and he does this for a living, you can’t help it, especially since I haven’t been able to lose the feeling that something bad has happened. I am so proud of him, though. This suited him perfectly, always protective, always cares about what happens to others, puts himself last, unyielding, would rather die than let anything happen to anyone else.
