Can the Tomah VA provide water to its Veterans and staff in the event of a water outage? You bet we can! VA employees participated in a functional exercise on Aug. 20, to create purified water from the fishing pond using a portable water purification system. This system produces 12 gallons of purified water per minute and was expected to not only eliminate harsh minerals but also removes bacteria and viruses. In the event of city water contamination or loss of water to our facility, our staff are able to set up this system and begin creating purified water within one hour based on the exercise. Samples of the purified water created was collected and shipped to the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene for analysis came back certified as drinkable (which two of our employees can personally attest to)!
