Can we have a show of hands? How many leaders of this nation has seen a real battle, seen war, seen death in a battlefield, have seen how soldiers suffer in SILENCE in the heat of the Battle. Or do they have any iota of an idea what it is like to be shot at, ambushed, blown to bits and chopped down like a tree? Have they ever experience the real fear of being shot at, bombed, sniped at, captured, tortured and maimed? Do they know what FEAR is as a Soldier sitting and waiting for the bombs to arrive! Have they experienced the lack of everything, just only surviving and getting through with meagre rations, without clean water, without even any water, having to get water from trickles & go about without shower, cleaning and shaving? To have to make a round trip of 2 hours plus just to carry enough water for cooking & drinking, having to trek through possible bobby trapped lanes and pathways, not to mention walking straight into an ambush! This goes on for weeks, even months if you are lucky you come back alive with two feet! The old soldiers will never shed a tear – the young ones today, I Doubt can visualize and envisage these conditions and situations of the past! It takes leather balls and an ‘iron will’ to be an Infantry foot soldier! My salute and tribute to all my fallen comrades and those who were maimed! Lest they should not be just buried and forgotten. A country needs no soldiers when times are GOOD! It is when the shit hitting the fans that we are yearned for, desired & most needed!
