Tourists on a safari in Botswana got their money’s worth when a hippopotamus nearly capsized their boat. Video taken on an iPhone by Craig Jackson shows a hippo chasing the speedboat he was riding in on the Chobe River. Jackson told The Huffington Post that the hippo was closer to the boat than the video made it appear. The slow-motion footage captures the agility and size of the river-dwelling animal. Hippopotamus is Greek for “river horse”; the animals are one of the most dangerous in Africa—killing more people a year than sharks. Wildlife tourism has been called into question for its impact on animals. Increased human activity in hippo habitats has confined the animals to protected areas, which can escalate aggression. Researchers from the International Marine Conservation Congress also found that activities like whale watching cause undue stress on wild animals. Others argue that whale watching and river safaris can promote conservation efforts if they are properly managed. https://youtube/watch?v=TEXYw91lQuY
