When I worked in the museum field and described my cataloging work - TopicsExpress

When I worked in the museum field and described my cataloging work on an online forum, someone told me that it sounded so pointless and stultifying to them. I told that person that I couldnt disagree more: because of my work, the museum would have in place a strong foundation to develop excellent exhibits and educational programs, and would be able to conserve the artifacts they have and be in a better position to make good decisions about potential acquisitions. Even in the short view, its satisfying, as you get to go up close and personal with things that most people will only get to see behind glass. You cant build a good house without a quality foundation, and thats what folks in collections care provide to museums.
