Can you be part of a group, religion or civilization and be a - TopicsExpress

Can you be part of a group, religion or civilization and be a non-believer? Yes. Can you love your history and being part of a group of people with whom to truly identify, but without a part most consider major? Yes. There are people who consider themselves religious because they believe in God and their religion, but they aren’t decent people. They hurt others and they think they do it in the name of God. How is that possible? They judge others and never hold out a helping hand to anyone who is different from them. I would think that if a person believed in God, they would love and honor all the beautiful diversity that God created. We do see it, but it’s rare. . So, what if a person is a non-believer and does love and honor all the beautiful diversity in the world. What if this person does his/her best to always be a decent human being, a mensch, sometimes it doesn’t work, but the best effort is always given. Who is more religious? The person who can quote the scriptures (or the Quran) yet isn’t tolerant of other people’s beliefs, or the person who finds that very culturally interesting, but would prefer to spend his/her time learning about the world, and doing things that might make it just a little better for someone else? Who is more tolerant, the person who doesn’t believe, but finds other’s beliefs very interesting, or the person who thinks that the non-believer is doomed. Please don’t ask if maybe this non-believer believes in some spiritual thing that is really another name for God because the answer is ‘no’. But, this non-believer believes in ‘Good’. Peace, Shalom, Salaam
