Can you help us identify this American solider? This photograph was taken by the Berlin Wall by Magnum photojournalist Leonard Freed likely in August 1961. The solider may have served in the 2nd Battle Group, 6th Infantry in West Germany. His photograph appeared in Freeds classic 1968 photo-book Black in White America, and has been shown in the Smithsonian and Getty museums. For over fifty years, his name and story have remained unknown, including to Freed. We want to include his name in future exhibitions and books, learn more about his story, and offer him or a member of his immediate family a print of this photograph.
