Can you love somebody you dont know? If you dont know them, arent you only loving your own idea, your own assumptions about who they are? There is a big difference between love and admiration. I dont think you can love somebody you dont admire, at last on some level. But you sure can admire somebody without knowing them well enough to love them in anything but a superficial way. I dont presume to know why anybody would kill themselves. But I remember mulling this over when I heard that Dror Barak (Roman Ragazzi) killed himself. Then Peter Korzma (Arpad Miklos). Then Wilfried Chevalier (Wilfried Knight). All of them having one thing in common: they were known by colleagues as being extremly nice, genuine people in a business that is famous for phonies. Lot of fans were asking how they could possibly feel unloved when they, their fans, loved them so much? The answer to that was, maybe, that we didnt really love them. We loved the image they projected. We loved what they did to entertain us. That brings up the question, who in their lives really, *really* loved them? Who knew them well enough to know their pluses and minuses, and love them for it all? Maybe nobody. Admiring people for what they do is different from loving people for who they are. Way different.
