Pyrethrum Board Chiefs On The Spot Over Losses By Elijah Kinyanjui Monday August 19 2013 Agriculture Secretary Felix Kosgei on Friday made a sudden landing at the Nakuru Pyrethrum Board of Kenya via a chopper catching top official of the state-financed but financially crippled body by shock. Koskei rapped the top officials of PBK to their face when he accused them of running down farmers’ body. A visibly angered minister dressed down Managing Director Isaac Mulagoli and his top team who stammered and started shaking in embarrassment after the Secretary made the impromptu visit to the plant. Koskei accused managers of the financially-wriggling PBK of e stealing from the government by earning salaries without working. Activities at the troubled Nakuru factory have ground to a halt after farmers refused to supply flowers due to non-payment running into nearly Sh 50m. “Can you people tell me what you are managing here when there are no flowers? What exactly do you do from 8am to 5pm?” a visibly angry Koskei asked. “Why do you want to keep your jobs when the truth is that you are earning free government money”, he added. Koskei who was accompanied by Principal Secretary Cecile Kariuki was making his second visit to the Nakuru factory since being appointed to the cabinet. Turning to the Mulagoli and Marketing Manager Lucy Komen, Koskei asked: “What are you producing and marketing. Aren’t you marketing pure lies?” Human Resources Manager Rosaline Chepng’eno said farmers were willing to deliver their flowers and urged the government to release cash to pay them their money. Koskei however said: ” The government has pumped in Sh 1.1 billion so far and the factory is still sinking and yet you want to keep your jobs?”
