Canadians for Tax Fairness is taking action online to support New Democrats’ work on tax havens. As Official Opposition Critic for National Revenue, I have introduced legislation to tackle tax havens. Hundreds of Canadians have already sent messages to their MPs supporting Bill C-621, which would help the government and courts identify, pursue and convict tax cheats by cracking down on sham transactions used by certain companies to avoid paying taxes. While paying lip service to this serious issue, the Conservatives have cut investigators from the Canada Revenue Agency and failed to put in place the legislation necessary to catch and convict tax cheats. Bill C-621 would take serious action to protect Canada’s tax base and ensure the integrity of our tax system so that everyone pays their fair share.
