#CancelColbert ? Are you people kidding me? Oh no, he made an offensive joke! Guess what? THATS HIS JOB! This overabundant, infantile level of sensitivity displayed by people jumping to defend their groups shows not only a complete lack of willingness to laugh at all of our own foibles, but also is exceedingly demonstrative of the divisive nature of their defensiveness. When have you heard Al Sharpton get offended by something Chris Rock said? The Jewish community in an uproar over a John Stewart joke? Or the blowback from either segment of the Korean population over yet another off-color Asian/gay joke from Margaret Cho? I could go on and on... You dont. Its funny when a member of my group makes fun of us. Theyre allowed, theyre one of us... This self-prescribed herd capitulation hasnt and isnt doing any of us any good. If you want to laugh at stereotypes, start with your own. Whether or not someone looks like you, if you cant handle them laughing with you, maybe you shouldnt be laughing at all. If it feels like theyre laughing at you, then maybe you were the one harboring stereotypes all along.
