Canning River parkrun, Event number 62 - 2nd August 2014 How awesome is parkrun? Its free, its timed, its for everyone and it is one of the best ways I know to start a weekend. What I think is awesome is the fact that we have a hugely supportive volunteer base. Last night, I had the dilemma of a incomplete parkrun roster - we were missing a timekeeper, a marshall and a photographer. After a call out on facebook, the roster was full and we all could enjoy our parkrun. Chris Dun has finished six parkruns and now has volunteered seven times, including four times as timekeeper. Today, Chris Dun is Canning River parkruns champion! Big thanks also to Paul, who has just come off a long haul flight to marshal and take photos. This week’s parkrun attracted a slightly smaller group of parkrunners (when did we consider 141 parkrunners to be a smaller field?). Big congratulations to Bob Fawcett on his 50th parkrun! Welcome to the club. Bobs trademark is a very strong finish and I like his view If I have something left in the tank near the end, then I going to use it all up! Some of our regulars were on vacation at Claisebrook Cove parkrun, where they celebrated their 2nd anniversary and today marks parkruns 2nd birthday in WA. Cameron Storey, a junior 10 parkrunner completed his 100th parkrun today! Well done Cam. As part of celebrations, we should also congratulate our Canning River parkrunners Ash Walker and Amanda Dear on completing their milestone runs to join the 50 club. We are starting to see a lot more CR parkrunners reach their 50 runs. We also had a renowned parkrun tourist in our mix today - Brent Stowers. Brent has completed 70 parkruns and covering 36 different parkruns. Brent - I hope you enjoyed the day! This week there were 141 runners, of whom 19 were first timers and 34 recorded new Personal Bests. We also had a number of first timers who havent registered to see what parkrun is about. Hopefully next week, we will see you back with a barcode in hand.
