Cannot really describe the scene as I cycle through the Elbow Park and Rideau neighbourhoods of Calgary to go and help some friends whose basement and garden are an absolute mess. Dumpster after dumpster, piles of wood, soggy drywall, furniture, the noise from pump motors whirring incessantly... what gets you about this scene is that it appears almost endless, block after block....its like a "war zone", I apologise for the poor metaphor.. But amongst the rubble are the hordes of hardworking volunteers, some are strangers to the residents they are trying to help. They are working diligently but with good humour. Angels appear almost magically bringing food and drinks (supplied by local businesses) to the weary and hungry throng... Nature has wrought a massive devastation but humanity shines through.
