Cant write... too tired... Im at about 4400 right now. My goal of getting to 6500 tonight seems a bit lofty. I mean, its only 2100 words; I should be able to crank that out in a couple hours. Right now, though, the idea of writing that much seems daunting. I can do it. I am working on the club scene with Olivia and Vanessa. It shouldnt be difficult to stuff that with detail until I hit my word quota. With all the character work that Im putting into this, developing aspects that I had never anticipated of Olivia Harrel, Im really starting to adore her. Itll be tricky, not using her again until book six (Ctrl-Alt-Del) at soonest, assuming she even survives this story. I think shes going to: shes a jaded college student, chosen as the avatar of Athena, with conflicting priorities. How can you not love her? Still, with me only half way through book 3, and still just starting the outline for book four, it seems like an eternity until Im able to introduce her into the main Mythos universe (since An Owl in the Rose Bush is only a companion novel). This is, of course, where my short stories are going to come in handy. I havent even gotten to the Cyber Furies yet, and Im already in love with this girl! To be honest, she was only supposed to be a one-shot deal (like Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Shes evolving into so much more. This is the problem with developing 3rd tier characters. Usually, when I dont need a character any longer, I spend less time working on their personality. I mean, how many Star Trek red shirts were even given names? You knew they were going to die, so no effort was placed on their personality! I had never intended to outright kill Olivia, since this book isnt meant to be a tragedy, but the idea of having her vanish seems obscene. To my writing partners, if youre intending to kill or not use a character again, its probably best to not develop their personality very deeply, otherwise, their vanishing will hurt you as much as the reader. Cant write... too tired...
