Captains log: My first mate and I are still managing to survive - TopicsExpress

Captains log: My first mate and I are still managing to survive here, barely. Sleep deprivation has taken its toll, causing delirium, lack of appetite (not the first mates, his seems fine), headaches and such. The tribe has grown since I was last able to sneak away to the white mountain and write, a fine little creature who lures you in with a false sense of innocence. She is small in stature, but very mighty, and sturdy! My first mate is no small man, yet he is unable to move her when needed, like at times of the food offerings, or when we gather in the village square. The elders, as always, continue to observe us, but have grown somewhat complacent in their attentiveness, mainly because we make sure the offerings are laid out at the appropriate time and manner. Chief Appollo, however, continues his crusade to push us from this island, using old tactics, no doubt handed down from his ancestors, like sleep torture and leaving slick yellow traps. The worst though is the large brown offerings he leaves in various places in the village courtyard, now partially hidden by the seasons fallen foilage. One step onto these can send a man, or woman, into shock for hours, the smell so debilitating and causing hours of cleaning. The Matriarch is still such high maintenance, very precise with regards to exactly how long she is out in the courtyard, and how we must attend to her bedding properly when she deigns to sleep. The good news today, and the reason I am sitting on the white mountain and able to send out this communication in the hopes my loved ones can read it and know I still exist, is the fact that there was some early unrest beyond our village walls, and my first mate allowed everyone a quick trip to the courtyard at the ungodly hour of 4 am, thereby letting us get some sleep, oh, glorious sleep, until 6:30. Wait. What was that? I must go now, second in command Chaos beckons, with his deep threatening tone and dark eyes. Please let this reach my loved ones! ~ Captain Helen Barrios over and out.
