Card of the evening: “word virus” from discourse to intercourse born into a particular place and time, our language indelibly marks and is marked by the arc of our personal life, but carried within its codes is also the taint and traces of our era, our kin, our profession, prevarications, aspirations, failures, successes and even our secrets. Reading, writing , listening and speaking are the smallest segments of the forms of communication which have been hardwired into us by the discourses of our communities via birth, exposure and choice. The gift we are offered as sentient beings is the ability to adopt and abandon accents, adjectives, forms of address and modes of communication in order to change our own timbre of voice to best suit our particular path and purpose. While language infects us from birth, we each have the power to liberate ourselves from the words and the scripts offered us.
