Career Opportunity: Director, Massachusettes Firefighting Academy Department of Fire Services (DFS) The Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, within the Department of Fire Services, is mandated by MGL c.6, s.165a as the sole agency responsible for the training of all fire service personnel in the Commonwealth. The Director of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy serves as the division head for the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy. The duties and responsibilities of the Director include providing overall leadership, management, and administration in carrying out the statutory responsibilities in determining, developing, and delivering a comprehensive statewide training system for firefighters, as well as cross-disciplinary training such as police, emergency management and EMS providers. By statute, the position also serves as a member of the Massachusetts Fire Training Council. The Training council administers the fire service certification system. The mission of the division is to strategize, develop, and deliver state of the art and timely training for the fire service personnel of the cities, towns, and fire districts of the Commonwealth and appropriate public and private sector organizations to enhance the public safety of the citizens, and to maintain the economic growth and stability of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) five years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, supervisory or managerial experience in business administration, business management, or public administration and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a managerial capacity.
