Carla, Dennis weigh in on ‘MHL’ end by Jecelyn V. Macahindog September 20, 2013 There is much anticipation as to how “My Husband’s Lover” will end that even its lead stars Carla Abellana and Dennis Trillo have their own idea or two regarding the story’s conclusion. Carla, who plays the “perfect wife” Lally, thinks that whoever wins the husband, Vincent (played by Tom Rodriguez), in the end will be in a win-lose situation. “Kaya mas gusto kong neither kay Lally or Eric (Dennis) mapunta si Vincent,” she told Bulletin Entertainment and select members of the press during Friday’s “My Husband’s Lover” set visit in Quezon City. Explaining her stance, Carla said, “Obviously hindi naman pwedeng ituloy lang nila (Lally and Vincent) ’yung marriage nila kasi gano’n na naman – Vincent will be living a lie and will be pretending for the rest of his life ’di ba? So ’wag na kasi hindi mo na mase-save ’yung marriage. He can still be a father (to his kids) but hindi na husband (to Lally). She continued, “Eric naman, of course, is Vincent’s first love. Siya talaga ang nasa puso ni Vincent, pero hindi ko din alam kasi minsan, nagkakasakitan din sila.” Carla knows for a fact that her character has been deemed a “kontrabida” to the love story of Vincent and Eric and, like many, she is a fan of the Tom-Den team-up, too. Dennis, on the other hand, wants Vincent to choose his family over Eric. “Ayokong sirain ni Eric ang pamilya ni Lally,” he said. What about Eric? Dennis quipped, “He can go abroad, maybe (to) Canada and doon, maghanap na lang siya ng gay na gwapo!” He added, “Basta kahit ano pa ang ending ng story, for sure, marami ang magre-react.” Last three weeks Now down to its last three weeks, the series’ lead stars are aware that they will be ending on a high note. With that in mind, Carla feels challenged to stay grounded. “I don’t think about it (success) too much kasi ’yung focus ko talaga ay sa show, although nababasa ko naman ’yung feedback, reviews and comments. Baka mawala ako sa focus or baka masyado ako ma-overwhelm, ma-flatter. It’s enough that I’m aware pero I don’t let it get into my head,” she said. Dennis, who considers “My Husband’s Lover” as his biggest break so far, credits the show’s success to the overall efforts of the actors and the production staff. He also lauds his “Bhe” Tom and even regards the latter a “gem” found by GMA-7. “We’re friends ni Tom and we have worked together in ‘Temptation Island,’ plus, we have the same manager, kaya may bonding na din,” Dennis shared. Reacting to being praised for his natural portrayal of a gay man, Dennis commented, “For me, it’s a good thing na confused ang audience kung bading ba talaga ako o hindi. Hindi ko alam kung ano ang kinakikiligan nila sa amin ni Tom pero ang mahalaga, tama siguro ang ginagawa namin as actors.” He added, “Siguro nagpapasalamat na lang ako sa abilidad ko na umarte at maipakita ’yung feminine side ko na natural. Siguro bading ako sa past life ko (laughs).” Dennis’ ‘resurrection’ Dennis wants to challenge himself, which us why he accepted the role of Eric. He nevertheless noted, “Mahirap maging ibang tao. Pag-uwi sa bahay, parang pagod na pagod ako. Kasi hindi lang salita, boses o kilos ang kailangan kong gawin kundi kailangan kong mag step-in sa buong pagkatao ni Eric.” In the same interview, the 32-year-old actor also admitted, “Dumating ako sa point na nasabi ko sa sarili ko na wala nang ikauunlad ang career ko. With ‘My Husband’s Lover,’ naramdaman ko na bumalik ’yung pagmamahal sa akin ng tao. Sobra nila akong tinanggap. Dennis, who has been tagged as a ladies’ man in the past, said, “Feeling ko nakalimutan bigla ng mga tao ang lahat ng palpak na ginawa ko noon.” Already with a five -year-old son, Calix (with former girlfriend Carlene Aguilar), Dennis naturally has to consider the effects his public persona would have on the boy. As to his kid’s reaction to him being “gay,” Dennis related, “Ine-explain ko naman sa kanya na ‘it’s just a role.’ Alam naman niya ang trabaho ko so wala namang problema.”
