Carted boxes of books up to the new house today so I wouldnt have - TopicsExpress

Carted boxes of books up to the new house today so I wouldnt have to formally pack them - after donating as many that fell into the ephemera category. Why are we so reluctant to part with these vestiges and remnants? Some portion Vanity (hey, look at my learning), some portion I want the option of re-reading however improbable - but in this digital age, it seems mostly driven by memories and associations. Were talking a spectrum ranging from leather-bound editions of Lorna Doone and Silas Marner (my great grandparents editions which were on the shelf when I was a child and I actually read out of pure boredom) to Bonfire of the Vanities and others that pertain more generally to my cohort. Anyway, I found the experience somewhat emotional. Or maybe I just wanted to brag about having read Silas Marner.
