Case for change: December 14, 2014 at 11:53 am (Quote) The principle job of a Government is to govern, not to make money. Allowing a body that has legal power to shape the marketplace to also make money is to invite conflict of interest at a very fundamental level. Sg Gov has been doing that for a long time and the corrosive effect is for all to see. Much as I would like to see the changes coming from within PAP itself because it is less disruptive, it is not a realistic expectation. The incumbents are by definition the defender of the current system. Asking them to make fundamental changes to the system is akin to getting them to admit that they have been wrong at a very fundamental level. This is a psychological barrier that is difficult for any individual to overcome. At a group level, impossible. The only realistic way to make such corrective changes is through opposition, people who are outside the system. Yes the opposition are weak and not ready. But all the more we must support them at this nascent stage of change. Rejecting the opposition because they are not ready will only create more misery in the long run.
