Case-to-case basis. When the acoustic guitar already has a dead - TopicsExpress

Case-to-case basis. When the acoustic guitar already has a dead straight neck and the saddle is already too low that the strings will start hitting the wooden bridge, and there is no case of lifting bridge or loose braces or anything that can contribut to such a high action, we resort to two things. 1. shave the bridge and lower the saddle* 2. route string channels on the bridge and lower the saddle, sometimes the saddle route must also be routed deeper.** Actually, neck reset would be the best repair for such condition. It involves taking out the whole neck and regluing it at a calculated pitch or angle. However, it is tedous and really costly to do. With the case of this guitar, #1* wasnt the next best option because Id have to shave down at least half the total thickness of the bridge. Thats not good. Id end up compromising the stability and mass of the bridge itself. Thats why I opted for #2**, routing out channels for the strings. The guitar now plays like a dream and stays in tune perfectly. :) A little unorthodox, but theoretically correct. We do it in such a way that the bridge still looks aesthetically pleasing afterwards. :)
