If we serve God in order to be blessed or in order to feel good,or even in order to earn the kingdom of God,we are not serving God but ourselves.Religion has often been understood as a give-in-order-to-receive arrangement between humans and God,like some bank investment.We give our offerings,we go to religious meetings and make our sacrifices to God,and then in return,we even demand,that He will protect us and send us in abundance what we have given.Often we hear sow or plant your seed.If this happens,if we end up being rich and happy,then we think that we deserved it;if not we wonder about this God,and sooner or later we will stop giving and even turn away from this God. Jobs story then becomes a very important eye opener to all professed Christians that in all circumstances we have to hold on our God for He knows what is best for us.Amidst all calamities Job held on fast.He says,Even if He slays me yet I will serve Him.
