Casting Net: Michael Fassbender (12 Years a Slave) is in talks to star in the Derek Cianfrance-directed adaptation of M.L. Stedman‘s 2012 novel The Light Between Oceans. The story follows a lighthouse keeper and his wife, who discover an infant and a dead body in a rowboat and decide to raise the child as their own in post-World War I Australia. Fassbender can be seen next in X-Men: Days of Future Past (out May 23). Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) is reportedly the top choice to star opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 5. She was supposed to work with Cruise on Joseph Kosinski’s 2013 film Oblivion, but dropped out when she got the offer to star in Zero Dark Thirty. Olga Kurylenko took the vacated spot. Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) and Gwyneth Paltrow will co-star in the crime thriller The Secret in Their Eyes — an adaptation of Oscar-winner El Secreto de Sus Ojos. The story follows a former MI-5 agent who is obsessed with an unsolved murder. Shattered Glass writer-director Billy Ray will head up the project. Peter Sarsgaard (Blue Jasmine) and Winona Ryder (Girl, Interrupted) will co-star in the indie drama Experimenter, The Stanley Milgram Story about the 1960s social psychologist who designed the Obedience Experiments at Yale. Michael Almereyda (2000′s Hamlet) wrote and will direct the pic, which is set to shoot in New York in June. Ryder will play one of Milgram’s students and his love interest. Josh Hamilton (American Horror Story), Jim Gaffigan (Going the Distance), and Dennis Haysbert (24) also star. Owen Wilson (Midnight in Paris) and Jessica Capshaw (Grey’s Anatomy) will lend their voices to the animated The Hero of Color City about a bunch of crayons who come to life when their owner goes to sleep. Maria Bello (A History of Violence) has boarded the live-action Mattel toy-inspired Max Steel movie, opposite Andy Garcia. She tweeted a photo from the Wilmington set. Clemens Schick (Casino Royale) will play a henchman in the Point Break remake, but no word yet on who will be replacing Gerard Butler in the vacated lead role.
