Jesus. messianic ministry involves not only forgiveness of sins but something more, making sinners positively righteous. Jesus, by having table fellowship with tax collectors and sinners, gives us clearly to understand that God, even while being wholly transcendent, is very close to us even though we are sinners. God does not reject sinners but seeks them out in order to make them righteous.
