Caught the live broadcast of the Hooligan Factory premiere last - TopicsExpress

Caught the live broadcast of the Hooligan Factory premiere last night. Someone decided to schedule a 40 minute stand up before showing the film. It was at best amusing, at worst, as a cinema goer, it was crap and annoying. As a way to drum up publicity for the film, to do something different ... Well, it was that. As for the film, I went without knowing anything about it. So I was disappointed to find it was a spoof, and a spoof of a genre of films Ive never even seen - football hooligan films. Well, I saw The Firm with Gary Oldman a million years ago but Ive never seen Green Street. So I ended up watching a lame comedy which referenced the usual cliches. I was missing Only Connect for this? HF was eye rolling to amusing at best. I accept if I had actually seen any football hooligan films perhaps I would have been more tickled by it. Strangely, I do now want to watch Green Street so I can get HF more. The actors were a hoot (the reason I went by the way, I didnt just wander in to a random screening) and must have enjoyed themselves making this. Whats of real interest is the story of the filmmakers. Im under the impression they made the film themselves, got all their mates in it, then had the fairy tale come true when a major distributor picked it up. So bloody well done to them.
