Celebrate Thanksgiving Weekend with Pan Nation Steel Drum - TopicsExpress

Celebrate Thanksgiving Weekend with Pan Nation Steel Drum Ensemble, a program for the whole family! How about Red Beans and Rice, the Memory of Your Smile or Woodbrook Jam? Sundays Estes Park Music Festival concert at the Stanley Concert Hall will feature the exuberant and extraordinarily talented Pan Nation Steel Drum Ensemble. Steel Drums, or Pans, originated in the Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago, and have proved to be astonishingly versatile in the performance of classical, Latin, jazz and many other genres of music. The modern pan is a chromatically pitched percussion instrument made from steel drums. It is not a drum as we know it (which is a membranophone) but more accurately categorized as an idiophone. The pan is struck using a pair of straight sticks tipped with rubber; the size and type of rubber tip varies according to the class of pan being played. Some musicians use four pansticks, holding two in each hand. Pan Nations in-depth exploration of traditional and modern steel drum repertoire represents a fresh, contemporary approach to the steel drum band. The ensemble members are actively involved as composers and soloists of their repertoire, the result being a unique, new sound for the steel drum ensemble. Pan Nation?s eclectic steel drum repertoire has been well received at concert performances throughout the Western United States as well as their master classes, outreach and innovative community programs. The group has just released a debut EP recording entitled, Altered Perception. Dont miss this exciting young group of musicians. The Pan Nation program has something for everyone! ************************************************************* On December 1st, the Estes Park Music Festival presents Christmas at the Stanley Hotel Concert Hall.
