Celebration of the Local Champion Women On October 24, 2013, the Capital Area Democratic Women (CADW) held its annual Celebration of Champions. It was an event to recognize three women who were awarded for their dedication and hard work of making a difference in their communities. The three women who received this award were Yvonne Massey Davis, Laura Kolstad, and Mary Patrick. These three women have shown their dedication for promoting women’s issues and involvement in Central Texas. Moreover, the CADW works to promote women’s influence and leadership in Texas politics and government. The CADW Champion was founded in 1988 and its purpose was to showcase the importance of women at all levels of the political process. The CADW supports Democratic Party candidates at the local and state level. As a result it has become one of the most important Travis County Democratic Party Clubs. Furthermore, the CADW has played a crucial role in electing candidates and supporting various women’s issues. As a result, numerous elected officials and aspiring candidates are members of the CADW. For instance, Chantal Eldridge who may to seek run for a Travis County Criminal Court seat mentioned, “I love the CADW because it is full of the strongest women leaders in Travis County. Every candidate who runs for office attends CADW frequently; and as shown by the immense impact that CADW had on this summers events at the Capitol, then its influence extends well beyond Travis County.” Therefore, the CADW is a vital club for promoting candidates and women’s issues.
