Cell by cell, inch by inch, day by day, over 30 years-- the things i believe Religiously have changed entirely, from Make-Believe, into Science. But every day i have felt just as Religious as i felt the day before-- the same Certainty that believing in what is True makes me immune to what is False...the same sense of Refuge, and Grace, and the same unassailable confidence that i am never, ever, alone. At this point, the only thing Religious about my religion is my Belief that it IS a Religion. All of my OTHER beliefs are shared by Atheists around the world. but, for me, the words god and Heaven still have profound, personal, and useful meaning.......even if what they mean to me is very much like what the three dots at the end of the numbers of Pi mean. to ME, that meaning is Enough--- when i pray to It, i am heard, and when i dance before it, i am seen, and when im a good boy, i am loved........even if the One who hears, sees and loves me...........dies WITH me. my prayers dont need answers...they arent questions. mostly, im just saying Thanks. i spin Mystical webs of Ether, and i hang them like dreamcatchers, from Facts. like the old man said to Bob Balaban, at the beginning of Close Encounters-- The Sun came up.......and he SANG to me.
