Centennial Commission to hold Public Forum The Centennial - TopicsExpress

Centennial Commission to hold Public Forum The Centennial Commission (the Commission) has been established to commemorate the 100th anniversary in 2017 of the transfer of the Danish West Indies to the United States; thus becoming the U.S. Virgin Islands. March 31st of every year is recognized as the official Transfer Day in the USVI. Each year, the Territory acknowledges the anniversary by symbolically lowering the Danish flag and raising the Stars and Stripes. The first and official ceremony took place on St. Thomas on the grounds of the Legislature at 4:00 pm on March 31, 1917. The Commission, in an effort to get public input, is having public forums throughout the Virgin Islands. The first series of forums were held in St. Thomas and St. John in September and October, respectively. The forum on St. Croix will be held as follows: Saturday, December 6. 2014 from 1:00pm. to 3:00pm at the Fritz Lawaetz Legislative Hall in Frederiksted, St. Croix. The general public is invited to attend these forums and give us your ideas and concerns on how we can best serve you. You may call Dr. Eugene Petersen at 340 690 0617 for more information or visit on facebook: United States Virgin Islands Centennial 2017.
