Central Arkansas Astronomical Society members Chris Lasley and Danny Flippo have just released their latest collaborative astrophotography image: the Elephant Trunk Nebula in the constellation of Cepheus. One of the great things about atsrophotography is the ability of the camera to bring out details of the universe that our eyes alone never could. Advances in CCD cameras and sophisticated software that allows photographers to combine their multiple exposure images into one highly detailed image has revolutionized the hobby of astroimaging. And when you work with a friend and each of you are imaging the same object, independently using different telescopes and filters, and then later combining those images....well, the details become even more pronounced. And stunning! And yes, this incredible image was taken from here in Arkansas at our River Ridge Observatory. Click on it to see even more!
